What kind of collaboration would you like to establish with the Italian partners?
We are particularly interested in risk-willing, exploratory artists who bring strong diversity perspectives or global narratives into their practice. This may include artists who work across cultures, challenge dominant perspectives, or engage with questions of identity, belonging, and power.
We are not primarily looking for artists whose main focus is Norwegian nature as a picturesque or romantic subject in itself. Instead, we seek those who are genuinely curious about how Northern Norway can enter into dialogue with Italy—artistically, historically, politically, socially, or environmentally. This could involve exploring shared challenges and contrasts between the regions, such as climate and migration, center–periphery dynamics, tourism, or questions of cultural heritage and future imaginaries.
We are especially interested in artists whose working methods or aesthetics push the boundaries of contemporary performing arts. This may mean experimentation with form, format, technology, or audience engagement; crossing genres and disciplines; or testing new modes of collaboration and production.
What are the research areas the Norwegian facility is focusing on? What is its mission?
Davvi – Centre for Performing Arts is rooted in the North, but our perspective is distinctly international. We see Northern stories, practices, and knowledge as part of a global conversation, and we actively seek collaborations that connect local realities with transnational questions such as decolonization, migration, ecology, and center–periphery dynamics.
Through international co-productions, exchanges, and networks, Davvi – Centre for Performing Arts aims to create long-term relationships between artists and institutions across borders, support artists who work interculturally or address global narratives from a Northern standpoint, and ensure that artistic voices from the North both contribute to and are challenged by developments in the wider international field of contemporary performing arts.
