BIT Teatergarasjen, Performing Arts Hub Norway, Dansearena nord and Dansekritikerrørsla have entered into a collaboration to strengthen the situation for performing arts criticism in Norway. Throughout the last 10-15 years, the number of contributors in the performing arts field has grown, regional competence centers for dance art have been established, more performances have been produced that have been touring both nationally and internationally and new performing arts festivals have been established throughout the country.

The situation for performing arts criticism in Norway is in stark contrast to the development of performing arts as outlined. The critique is a decisive voice for how we both articulate and document the work of art and for the development of theory and discourse. For the performing arts field, the critique also has an important role as documentation for posterity.

During October 2018, we arrange a seminar on performing arts criticism for Norwegian and International performing arts critics, aiming to contribute to a professional boost of performing arts criticism in Norway.

The event is divided into two parts with open lectures aimed at the festival audience, and a closed workshop aimed at critics. The open lectures aims to increase the competencies of performing arts and choreography – both inside and outside the performing arts field.

Participants will receive guidance from critic and editor Anette Therese Pettersen and dancer and critic Snelle Hall.
